Frederick Russell
Plenary Session

Fredrick Russell is the immediate past Senior Pastor of the Miracle Temple church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he had the distinct privilege of leading this dynamic and rapidly growing congregation for over twelve years. He is currently the leader of the Allegheny West Conference.

In addition to his pastoral and administrative ministry, Pastor Russell travels internationally developing leaders in church, corporate, academic and governmental settings in the areas of leadership, conflict resolution, leadership team development, and organizational development.

Pastor Russell has a special passion for helping leaders and change agents move their organizations and lives to the next level. In order to advance this passion, he has developed a company called the True North Leadership Group.

While living in Baltimore, he was a regular presenter for the Johns Hopkins University Leadership Development program that focuses on Managers/Leaders for both the Medical Center and University.

As an adjunct to his passion for developing leaders, he also serves as a columnist for the Adventist Review. He is also the creator and visionary for the Innovative Impact Leadership Conference, that focuses on exposing pastors to contemporary models of doing ministry.

Pastor Russell has a Bachelors Degree in Theology and a Masters Degree in Management, with an emphasis in Managerial Leadership. He is a certified instructor in the William Bridges Approach to "Leading Organizational Transitions."

Pastor Russell is happily married to his wife Brenda and the proud father of two young adults, Ashley and Andy. Ashley and her husband Lamar recently presented Pastor and Mrs. Russell with their first grandchild.

Byron Greenberg, Ph.D.

Dr. Greenberg received his Master's in Counseling from the Johns Hopkins University prior to completing his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and his Master's of Public Health from Loma Linda University in 1999. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who is currently a tenure track Assistant Professor at Virginia State University, where he teaches in the Psychology Department's Doctoral Program in Clinical Health Psychology. He maintains a private practice where he works with adolescents and adults, and he is a partner and consultant in an agency that specializes in working with at risk children and youth. Dr. Greenberg has been married for 20 years and he and his wife Karen have three children, ages 11, 14 and 16. He and his family are members of the Patterson Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Pastor Robb D. Long

Robb was called, in his mid 20s, from a secular life of sports and the pursuit of business success to follow Jesus Christ and preach the gospel of salvation. Since his dramatic conversion to Jesus and the special message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Robb has served the Lord as a Literature Evangelist, Bible Worker, Pastor, Conference Evangelist, Church Planter, and Instructor in the Amazing Facts College of Evangelism. He is currently the Pastor of the Triadelphia Church in the Chesapeake Conference. Robb enjoys leading men to a renewed understanding of God's purpose for their lives through the stories, principles, and prophecies of the Bible.

Robb's family consists of Christine, his wife of 20 years, and two daughters, Abigail (14) and Sara (12). His hobbies include reading, travel, hiking, nature, and music.

John Appel
Ministerial Director, Chesapeake Conference

John A. Appel was born in Fresno, California on August 20, 1945, to missionary parents. The family moved to China later that year. When the communist party took over China in 1948, they evacuated to Taiwan. Then on to Hong Kong, Bangkok (Thailand), Columbo (Ceylon, now Sri Lanka), and Poona (India). While John's parents were working in Bombay in 1957, he was baptized by his dad, Alva R. Appel. After Bombay they moved to Karmatar and then returned permanently to the US in 1959.

John attended John Nevins Andrews for 8th grade, Blue Mountain Academy for high school and then Columbia Union College, graduating in 1969. He changed his major from pre-med to theology while at CUC. After graduating from CUC, he went on to the Seminary at Andrews University.

He has served as youth pastor in Richmond (VA) and was a pastor in Manassas and Warrenton (VA). He was ordained in New Market (VA) in 1976, and then was the pastor of Sligo (MD), pastor of Atholton (MD), Associate Youth Director in the Oregon Conference, Chaplain and Bible Teacher at Forest Lake Academy (FL), pastor of Apopka Highland (FL) and pastor of Frederick (MD). In 2006, John became the Ministerial and Stewardship Director of the Chesapeake Conference.

John met Sally McKendrick at Blue Mountain Academy and they were married in 1969. They have three adult children (John Scott, Mark Allen, and Jennifer Lynn) and two grandchildren (JJ and Katelynn).

Pastor David Kim

Pastor David Kim serves the Washington-Spencerville Korean Adventist church as associate pastor working with the English-speaking members of all ages. David's passion is to help today's generation discover the relevance and redemption found in Jesus Christ. His call to ministry was precipitated by his mission experience in mainland China. Since then, he has been involved with the second generation Korean work in North America for the past 20 years in various capacity, including pastor of bilingual/bi-cultural church, editor for the English edition of the monthly journal, Compass, and coordinator of the Korean Youth Ministry Advisory Council. Academically, David is currently a PhD student in Claremont Graduate University's Theology Ethics and Culture program and has adjunct taught at Loma Linda and Washington Adventist Universities.

David has been married to his college sweetheart, Miya, for 19 years, and they have two young children, Abigail and Eleanor. Besides spending time with the family, David enjoys cycling, tennis and playing handyman around the house.

Pastor Andre Hastick

Pastor Andre Hastick was born and raised in New York. He made a decision to attend Columbia Union College, now Washington Adventist University, which changed his life forever. During his time in college, he felt a call to ministry and completed a double major in Theology and Psychology. He went on to graduate from Andrews University Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. Pastor Hastick currently pastors at the Aberdeen Seventh-day Adventist Church in Aberdeen, MD.

While in college, Andre also met the love of his life, Heather. Andre and Heather have been married for six fulfilling years. They have most recently been blessed with a little daughter, Brianna, who is now one year old. He enjoys traveling, reading and photography.

Pastor Justin Yang
Morning Speaker for Youth

Pastor Justin is currently the Youth/Associate Pastor at the Virginia Korean SDA Church. He has served in diverse ministry roles including: being one of the founding pastors of the English Church at Sahmyook University, a missionary in India with the 1000 Missionary Movement, a youth leader at Shindo Church while in the Korean Army Service, a teacher/youth pastor at Namyoung SDA Language Institute, and a youth pastor at Chicago Unity Church. He completed his BA in Theology at Sahmyook University, and his M. Div. at Andrews Seminary, and is happily married to Sangeon 'Iris' Oh.

Pastor Volodymyr Grinchenko

Volodymyr serves as the Senior Pastor for the Waldorf SDA Church. He holds a Master's of Ministry in Religion from Southern Adventist University and is a native of the Southern Ukraine. He is married to Agnesa and has three children - one son, Nikita, and two daughters, Zlata and Sophia. He loves running, boxing, parachute jumping.soccer, ping pong, tennis and volleyball. Most of all he has a passion for ministry and says being a Pastor is the best job in the world!
